 Omisalj
A town and port in the north-western part of the
island of Krk; population 1,554. Situated on a knoll (82 m) above
the sea, the large Omisalj Bay, which is well protected from all
winds except from north-westerlies. Chief occupations are farming,
fishing, chemicals and tourism. A tanker terminal is located in
the Omisalj Bay. Lies on the local road which is connected with
the regional road running from the Bridge of Krk to Baska. - Airport
"Rijeka" is situated near Omisalj.
A picturesque town situated on an elevation offering
a view on Rijeka and Opatija as well as the island of Cres. The
tourist offer comprises hotels, hotel annexes, a campsite, a long
bay ideal for rowing and sailing competitions, sports facilities
(tennis, miniature golf), entertainment and exquisite cultural heritage
- the centre of the Glagolitic culture - missals. Together with
the traditional Bodul Regatta, on 16th of August, a day after the
Assumption, another important event takes place - a dance of young
men and girls who raise a flag with a crown on the town square.
Petrochemical industry represents an obstacle to further development
of tourist trade in Omisalj.
