ABOUT BAŠKA

Since those beginnings to date, a century has gone by. The tourism history of baska has experienced extraordinary development. The following data bear witness of this fact. In 1911, Baska saw 1575 visitors. At the time, it was an impressive number of guests who had swarmed the streets of the town, resulting in the involvement of increasing numbers of local residents in the tourism activity. However, this was merely the beginning of the transformation of Baska into a touris destination. As early 1912, the number of visitors grew to 1785 increasing continuously until the present time with the exception of the war years.

With its three and four star hotels and camping sites, state of the art private accommodation, diverse restaurants, culture and entertainment, Baska today accepts more than 10,000 visitors in a single day. It has turned into one of the most sought and attractive tourist destinations on the Croatian Adriatic.

Baška abounds in beaches, some thirty pebbled beaches accessible to swimmers of all ages, while some of them have to be reached on foot or by boat. Still, the biggest and one of the most beautiful is Baška's Vela Plaža, the Great Beach, right in the centre of town, surrounded by bars, restaurants, pizzerias, cafes, hotels, private flats and other things all of which are an integral part of the place's attractions.
The Great Beach is a natural pebble beach, 1800 m long, which can take several thousand swimmers with ease.
Everyone can find something for him or herself in Baska: romantic architecture, white pebbles and blue sea,a seabed fit for the lovers of depth, history written in the stone of the unique Tablet of Baska, tradition, customs and gourmet specialties of the healthy Mediterranean cuisine.

The Blue Flag for Beaches is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe, and symbolises a well-preserved, safe and pleasant surrounding, purity of sea and coast, and a beach that is well laid out and maintained, with a well developed system for the management of the area.

On the beach you can hire pedal boats, windsurfers, parasols, deckchairs and other things to help you have a great holiday on the beach.

It was the beaches that spearheaded the development of holidaymaking in Baška, long ago in 1908, when the first bathing area on the island of Krk was officially opened.
Today, the purpose of the beach is just the same as it was a century ago, but now with features that ensure each visitor a safe and carefree stay.

The guarantee for the environment and for a high quality beach is the European Blue Flag, which has been fluttering over Vela Plaža uninterruptedly since 1999.
